“Film critic David Manning has been a consistent
booster for Sony Pictures films. Trouble is, he doesn’t exist.
Someone at Sony concocted glowing blurbs for movie ads
from the fictitious reviewer.” —Associated Press

Simulation Sequence #12: Cocktail party

Prompt Subject Utterance Notes
Would you like some more hors d’oeuvres?”
“These hors d’oeuvres are a smashing success! A non-stop roller coaster of thrills, chills and adventure!!!”
Excessive adulation. Unnecessary use of exclamation points.
“Do you like the pinot better, or the merlot?”
“This wine is hilarious and human, silly and sophisticated. Helena Bonham Carter is ape-rific!”
Non sequitur. Also, “Planet of the Apes" released by 20th Century Fox.
“Do you know where the restroom is?”
“Down the hall! I’ve heard it’s the year’s wildest ride.”
TMI.
“May I take your coat?”
“My coat is a whirlwind of excitement. It has the intensity and ferocity of a young Keanu Reeves.”
Inappropriate. Reprogram “Keanu Reeves” with “Josh Hartnett.”
“Could you pass the onion dip?”
“Look out, America! Hide the children and put Granny to bed — the onion dip is coming, and it’s not stopping until it conquers your tastebuds!”
Delivery too menacing.
“Heard any good new music lately?”
“Looking for some hot new music? Check out Sony recording artists 3LW. From hot-buttered soul to silky smooth grooves, this album is a must!”
A bit repetitive. Good Sony plug.
“It was great to see you. Have a good night.”
“Thank you, flesh pod. Please allow me to visit you on the eve of your next social engagement. I look forward to more verbal communication and consumption of this liquid you call ‘Mike’s Hard Lemonade.’”
Should he really be drinking?
